Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund
Established by law in 2017
The Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (BYEDTF) Board is established by Law in 2017. The Board shall be composed of 17 members with broad knowledge or expertise in major fields of education, fund-raising, endowments, educational foundations, etc. the Fund shall be used for the general upgrading of education in the State.
Mobilizing Support
The Board’s main function is to sensitize and mobilize all indigenes of Bayelsa, Nigerians, groups, philanthropists and relevant international organizations to contribute to the Fund. Currently, all Government employees at different levels contribute to the Fund.
Investing
However, the Board shall identify and explore other sources of funding to grow and sustain the Fund. The Board shall also invest part of its fund in any investment permitted by Law as approved by the Governor.
Responsibilities of the Board
Funding Educational Development
The Board has powers to receive on behalf of the State, funds such as money, stocks, pledges, promissory notes, equipment and any endowment. It makes payments or disbursements from money collected for the Fund to the Ministry of Education and its parastatals based on their respective priority needs. It also disburses money collected for the Fund to meet specific expenses in respect of the day-to-day administration of the Fund as approved by the Governor.
