EDTF PARTNERS TTRCB, BRITISH COUNCIL IN TRAINING TEACHERS IN BAYELSA STATE

The Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) in partnership with TTRCB and British Council has organized a five (5) day capacity building for 400 classroom teachers and school leaders training programme with the view to enable teachers acquire the requisite and contemporary knowledge to enhance modern approach and management of the school system to provide sustainable impact in the education sector for effective service delivery.

Speaking during the opening ceremony at the conference room, Golden Tulip Resorts, Government House, Onopa in Yenagoa, the Executive Secretary of EDTF, Professor, Ebimieowei Etebu said, the collaboration for the training programme was aimed at improving the teaching methodologies, leadership skills as well as to foster cultural innovations for school leaders and teachers noting that, it will significantly impact on the learning outcomes and improve teachers confidence as well as the school leadership. He expressed gratitude and commended the British Council, the Teachers Training Registration and Certification Board (TTRCB) as well as the last EDTF Board for their commitment towards ensuring positive collaboration with the view to contribute to the growth, Development and transformation of the educational sector. Professor Etebu assured the Board preparedness to continue the partnership ties with British Council and other Development partners to explore more positive areas of collaboration to achieve the aims and objectives of government in the education sector. He urged the beneficiaries of the programme to take the training seriously to acquire new skills and share experience to strengthen their teaching practice noting that, their willingness to learn would ensure excellence in the education sector as well as transform the school children.

In his remarks, the Chairman, EDTF, High Chief Fidelis Agbiki, expressed appreciation for the training programme and acknowledged the cordial relationship existing between the EDTF and British Council. According to him, through the relationship, it has produce remarkable result in the education sector in Bayelsa State. He explained that, the importance of the training was based on the development of effective leadership as well as empowering teachers with the needed skills and professional support to enable them thrive in the classroom. Chief Agbiki noted that, the three components of the training, improve learning outcomes, leadership skills and teaching methodologies, Stimulating Teachers resourcefulness to sustain positive impact and growth in the education system. He appealed to the participants to make the best out of the training.

Speaking, the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah expressed appreciation to the EDTF and British Council for instituting teachers leadership capacity training programme in the State. According to him, government has prioritized education in the state with a goal to attain global standards for the good of students and people of the State.

Also contributing, the Ag. Chairman, TTRCB, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Peremoboere Ugolo commended the EDTF and British Council for putting up the training programme to build capacity towards enhancing productivity, efficiency and effective educational system in the State. She noted that, since education was the driving force government has done well in prioritizing the sector which according to her would attract positive impact not only on the individual but the State at large.

Responding, the Head of English, British Council, Fwanshishak Daniel expressed appreciation and commended the Bayelsa State Government and EDTF and for their commitment in collaboration with the British Council for deliberate investment in the education system particularly, the training of teachers noting that, it has made great impact in the sector stating that, it has grown into one of the best State level teachers development programme in the country. According to him, the partnership, for the past years has produce significant result particularly, the training of 40 Master Trainers on English proficiency, 20 Master Trainers on instructional leadership, 50 quality assurance officers as well as 400 and 600 teachers and school leadership. The number of teachers trained is 1000 teachers.

He urged the beneficiaries, especially the 300 teachers and 100 school leaders to make best use of the training to improve their professional growth and acquire the needed skills to impart on the school children to actualize positive charge in the educational sector.
