EDTF COMMISSIONS ADDITIONAL TEN (10) WATER PROJECTS IN BAYELSA STATE

 As part of its efforts to ensure the provision of good and sustainable education, the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) in collaboration with Sustainable Partnership Initiative Development (SPID) and the Ama Sei Humanitarian Foundation (ASHF) has commissioned additional Ten (10) 9,000, 20,000 and 30,000 litres capacity water facilities across the Three (3) Senatorial District in Bayelsa State.

The Water facilities include;

College of Health Technology, Otuogidi, in Ogbia Local Government Area, Community Secondary School, Nembe, in Nembe Local Government Area, Jasper Boro College of Education, Sagbama and Community Primary school, Agbere, in Sagbama Local Government Area, Community Secondary School, Zarama and Community Secondary School, Yeni- Zuegene, Community Secondary School, Polaku in Yenagoa Local Government Area, Community Primary school Aleibiri in Ekeremor Local Government Area while, Community Secondary School, Sangana and Community Secondary School, Brass in Brass Local Government Area, respectively. 

In her welcome remarks at the third batch of the commissioning of  9,000 litres capacity water project for  Government Secondary School, Polaku, the Executive Secretary of the EDTF, Dr. (Mrs.) Alice Atuwo expressed satisfaction for the provision of water facilities under the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme in the schools with the aim to solve some water born deseases and related epidemic ravaging the society.  According to her, the EDTF has provided water facilities for over thirty (30) schools in the Eight (8) Local Government Areas noting that, 9,000 and 20,000 litres capacity  particularly, for the Science and Technical Colleges while, 30,000 litres capacity solar water scheme for the Bayelsa State Health Technology, Otuogidi. Dr. Atuwo further explained that, the EDTF has made significant impacts to ensure the provision of safe and healthy learning environment as well as enhancing the wellbeing of the students. The Executive Secretary used the opportunity to appreciate Governor Douye Diri for the critical interventions in the education sector while, applauded the Sustainable Partnership Initiative Development (SPID) and stakeholders for their partnership and  unwavering support, bringing to fruition the vision of the Trust Fund.

She appealed to the students, teachers, administrators, management and the leadership of the communities to ensure the security and safety of the projects as well as put it to effective use to impact their lives and educational future.

In his remarks, the Acting Chairman, Professor Francis Sikoki, expressed gratitude for the EDTF commitment towards participating in the development of education particularly, in community Secondary School, Polaku, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the State. Prof. Sikoki explained that, the water facilities were implemented under (WASH) scheme to solve the challenges of water born diseases as well as cob the spread of related epidemics in the schools to provide the students conducive learning environment. He urged the benefitting  school administrators and the leadership of the Communities to take ownership of the projects to ensure the functional and protection of the projects to serve its purpose.

In his remarks, the Hon. Commissioner of Education, Dr Gentle Emelah who was represented by the Director, Exams and Record, Ministry of education, Barr. Monday Eke, expressed appreciation and lauded Governor Douye Diri and EDTF for the critical interventions in the education sector. He explained that, water, being an essential and critical component of human existence informed part of government efforts towards revamping the educational sector in ensuring the conducive and better learning environment for our children. The Education Commissioner admonished the Community leadership, the schools management and students to ensure the security, safety and sustenance of the facilities for efficient and productive use.

In her goodwill remarks, the  Chairman, Teachers Training Registration and Certification Board (TTRCB) Dr. (Mrs.) Stella peremobore Ugolo, expressed appreciation and applauded the EDTF for the excellent performance in placing a mark in the development of education in the State. Dr. Ugolo explained that, the TTRCB has completed the training of 3,000 teachers in twelve (12) batches stating that, the EDTF has sponsored ten (10) out of the twelve (12) batches cutting across all  Primary and Secondary School academic teachers in the State. She used the opportunity to thank the Polaku Community for their interest and zeal in the pursuit of good education while, urging the students to emulate the footpath of their leaders to continuously strive to make themselves relevant in the society.

Speaking, the leader of Polaku Community, His Royal Highness, Chief Tarila Barnabas, expressed appreciation and commended Governor Douye Diri and EDTF for their dexterity and benevolence in providing the water facilities to the school. He further emphasized the importance of education stating that, the provision of the water facility will produce better learning environment as well as significantly improve the learning outcome of the children while urging the students to take advantage of the project for their wellbeing to acquire the needed skills to impact on the society.

Contributing, the BOT Chairman, Sustainable Partnership Initiative Development (SPID) Professor Chris Briyai expressed gratitude to the Bayelsa State Government and EDTF for the partnership towards executing the water facilities in the schools while, assuring their readiness to continue the collaboration in supporting the development of education in the State.

Also contributing, the Principal of Community Secondary School, Polaku, Mr. Osiakeme Pension Nelson appreciated the Bayelsa State Government and EDTF for their benevolence and untiring efforts towards ensuring the siting of the project in the school. He assured the school management willingness to  sustain the project as well as to ensure the security of the facilities in the school.
