EDTF COMMISSIONS 11 WATER PROJECTS
As part of its drive to support the development of quality education, the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) in partnership with Sustainable Partnership Initiative Development (SPID), has commissioned eleven (11) 9,000/20,000 litres capacity water facilities across the Three (3) Senatorial District in the State.
The Water facilities include
GSTC, Ayamasa, GSTC, Ofoni
GSTC, Sampou,
CSS, Isampou,
CSS, Asamabiri, CSS, Amorokeni, CSS, Emeyal,
CSS, Apoama,
CSS, Agrisaba Igbeita Primary School, Odi, and GSTC, Swali.
In her remarks, the Executive Secretary (EDTF), Dr. (Mrs.) Alice Atuwo, expressed sense of fulfilment for the completion and implementation of the projects, According to her, the water facilities marks a significant milestone through the collective efforts towards improving the learning environment and the wellbeing of the students. She further explained that, the water facilities will significantly enhance access to clean water, promote self hygiene and academic performance among students. Dr. Atuwo noted that, the EDTF is committed towards improving the educational reforms as well as the learning outcome in the State. The Executive Secretary used the opportunity to appreciate the House Committee Chairman on Education, BYHA and then Commissioner of Education for their support and identifying with the programmes and activities of the Trust Fund. She applauded the Sustainable Partnership Initiative Development (SPID) and Amasei Humanitarian (AH) for their positive efforts towards the timely completion of the project. The Executive Secretary (ES) therefore urged the beneficiaries particularly the management and students of the schools to safeguard and make effective use of the project.
In his remarks, the Acting Chairman, Professor Francis Sikoki, expressed gratitude for the completion and commissioning of the water facilities in fulfilment of the EDTF mandate towards upgrading the educational standard at all levels in the State. He further explained that, the water facilities were implemented under (WASH) Water Sanitation and Hygiene programmes to solve the prevailing water born deseases and other related epidemic in the schools noting that, the provision of the water were to enable students have access to clean water. Professor Sikoki urged the benefiting schools particularly the school administration and the Community to ensure the sustenance of the projects.
Speaking, the House Committee Chairman, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Dr. Charles Daniel, on behalf of the Speaker and Members, applauded the EDTF team for the synergy and painstaking efforts towards the upgrading of education in the State. The lawmaker also appealed the EDTF to push the frontiers of educational reforms to the interior communities to enhance quality education for the people. He called on the school management and leadership of the Communities A’s well as the students to own the water facilities to ensure the security and safety of the project as well as put it to good use.
In his remarks, the Hon. Commissioner of Education Dr Gentle Emelah who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Simon Peter Okene, expressed appreciation and commended Governor Douye Diri and EDTF for their pro-activenes through the numerous achievements made in the education sector. He explained that, government is making tangible efforts towards revamping the educational sector to enable our children access quality education aimed at enabling them compete favourably with their counterparts in the World.
Contributing, the CDC Chairman Swali Community, Comrade James Isaiah expressed gratitude to the EDTF for their efforts in the provision of water in the school while, assuring their commitment to protect and secure the facility for effective use. Also contributing, the Principal, Government Science and Technical College, Swali, Mr. Pedro Igudu, applauded the Bayelsa State Government and EDTF for their painstaking efforts towards ensuring the sitting of the project in the school. He assured the management willingness to sustain and maintain the project as well as provide adequate security for the facilities in the school..
