EDTF Honoured participants of Federal Government Robotics Competition with Cash Rewards

As part of its drive to support the development of education, the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF), has honoured students, mentors and principal’s of four Model Secondary Schools who represented the State in a recent National Robotics Competition in Abuja through zoom with cash rewards.

Four schools; Government Model Secondary School Ogbia, Ijaw National Academy, Kaiama, Sports Academy Assoama and Government Model Secondary School Ekeremor participated in the challenge. Out of the four schools, Government Model Secondary School, Ogbia Town which clinched third position in the competition received 300 thousand naira cash gift for the team and 150 thousand naira for the mentors. Government Model Secondary Schools, Ekeremor received 150 thousand naira for the team and 100 thousand naira for the mentors while, Ijaw National Academy, Kaiama and Sports Academy Assoama received 100 thousand naira for the team and 50 thousand naira for the mentors each.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony at the Ministry of Education Conference Hall, Education House in Yenagoa, the Executive Secretary (EDTF) Dr (Mrs.) Alice Atuwo lauded the mentors, students and principals of the four schools for their resilient towards ensuring the success in the national competition despite the challenges. She applauded the participants for the honour done the State particularly, the positive impact created in the education sector while assuring EDTF’s willingness to support in future competitions.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Education, Dr Gentle Emelah commended the EDTF for it’s passion for programmes that are contributing to the development of the educational sector in the State. He said the State stands to gain much in the future with youths exposed to modern trends in the ICT world. The Education Commissioner applauded the participants for making the State proud in the national Robotics Competition while urging them not to rest on their oars. He said evidence abound that the State is witnessing giant strides in the education sector and encourage the mentors to sustain the tempo.

Speaking on behalf of the schools, the Principal, Bayelsa State Sports Academy, Asoama, Mr. Okpako Dickson, thanked the State Government and EDTF for the impacts in the sector and for providing them with the opportunity to excel in the national Robotics Competition.

He assured their readiness to support the students in positive ways to nable them stand with their counterparts in other parts of the country
