EDTF PARTNERS TTRCB, BRITISH COUNCIL IN TRINING TEACHERS IN BAYELSA STATE

The Bayelsa State Education Department Trust Fund (EDTF) in partnership with TTRCB and British Council has organized a five (5) days school leaders and teachers training programme with the view to enable teachers acquire the requisite and contemporary knowledge to make meaningful impact in the education sector for effective service delivery.

Speaking during the opening ceremony at the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) in Yenagoa, the Executive Secretary of EDTF, Dr. (Mrs.) Alice Atuwo said, the collaboration for the training programme was aimed at enhancing the capacity of teachers as well as the school administrators towards improving the the teaching methodology and management for impactful learning outcomes. She expressed gratitude and appreciated to the Honourable Commissioner of Education, the education team in the State particularly, the House Committee Chairman on Education, Bayelsa State House of Assembly and other members for always identifying with the programmes of EDTF. She also commended the Ag. Chairman, Teacher Training Registration and Certification Board TTRCB, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Peremoboere Ugolo, for working tirelessly with the EDTF towards the successful training of teachers in the State. Dr. Atuwo urged the beneficiaries of the programme to take the training seriously to acquire new skills and share experience to strengthen their teaching practice, noting that their willingness to learn would ensure excellence in the education sector.

In his remarks, the Acting Chairman, EDTF, Professor Francis Sikoki expressed appreciation for the training programme and acknowledged the cordial relationship existing between the EDTF and British Council. According to him, through the relationship, the EDTF attended two key conferences tagged; the Inclusive Education Conference and Going Global 2025 Educational Conference stating that, the programme was highly relevant in revamping the education sector in Bayelsa State. He explained that, the importance of the training was based on the development of effective leadership in the administration of the schools noting that, English Proficiency is an essential component as well as effective leadership in a twenty first century school system. Professor Sikoki noted that the three components of the training which include Strengthening Teachers English Proficiency, Stimulating Teachers Resourcefulness in Digital Education and Supporting Psychological Rigour in Networked Teaching were very relevant. He appealed to the participants to make the best out of their training.

Also speaking, the House Committee Chairman on Education in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Dr. Charles Daniel also lauded the EDTF and her partners for their excellence in performance and support towards ensuring the transformation of the education sector.  He particularly appreciated the British Council for exposing Bayelsa State education sector to the globe while appealing for continuity. The lawmaker also re-echoed the need for all participants of the programme to make best use of the training to acquire the requisite knowledge to impart our children and for the overall development of humans and society.

In his keynote remarks, the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah who was represented by the Director, Exams and Records, Mr. Monday Eke expressed appreciation to the EDTF and British Council for instituting teachers leadership capacity training programme in the State. According to him, government has prioritized education in the state with a goal to attain global standards for the good of students and pupils of the State.

Also contributing, the Ag. Chairman, TTRCB, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Peremoboere Ugolo commended the EDTF and British Council for putting up the training programme to build capacity towards enhancing productivity, efficiency and effective educational system in the State. She noted that, since education was the driving force government has done well in prioritizing the sector which according to her would attract positive impact not only on the individual but the State at large.

Responding, the Head of English, British Council, Fwanshishak Daniel expressed gratitude to the Bayelsa State Government and EDTF for their commitment in collaborating with the British Council and appealed to the government to expand the programme to accommodate more teachers in the rural communities
