EDTF COMMISSIONS WATER PROJECT
The Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) has commissioned a water project in Kaiama Grammar School (KGS), Kaiama, in Kolokuma/ Opokuma Local Government Area of the State as part of its mandate towards enhancing the provision of good and affordable education for the people.
In her remarks, the Executive Secretary (EDTF), Dr. (Mrs.) Alice Atuwo, expressed joy and fulfilment for the completion and commissioning of the project. She explained that, under the WASH programme, the provision of portable water in the schools was very key with the aim towards solving the challenges of cholera outbreak and other avoidable epidemic in the school stating that, the EDTF will ensure the provision of water for more schools until the end of its tenure. The Executive Secretary therefore urged the management of the school to make effective use of the project which was also designed to serve the community.
In his remarks, the Acting Chairman, Professor Francis Sikoki, expressed happiness for the EDTF participation and support for the programme towards enhancing the development of education in the State. He explained that, the EDTF places more emphasis on the provision of portable water stating that, it was the live wire for every human existence and assured the EDTF willingness to provide water in every school in Bayelsa State.
Also speaking, His Royal Highness, Jerry O, Burutolu (JP), Okpen 11, Amananaowei of Kaiama, expressed delight and applauded Governor Douye Diri for sustaining the EDTF to advance the development of education the State. He also commended the EDTF for their benevolence towards the provision of portable in the school and promised to ensure the protection and security of the project adding that, it will impact on the lives of the students and the overall community.
Speaking, the House Committee Chairman, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Dr. Charles Daniel, also applauded the EDTF team for the synergy and painstaking efforts towards the upgrading of education in the State. He called on the school management and leadership of the community to ensure the security of the project as well as put it to good use.
Also, the Chairman Bayelsa State Scholarship Board, Queen Josephine Izonbodor Torru, expressed appreciation and commended the EDTF for their pro-activeness through the numerous achievements made in the education sector. She also used the opportunity to applaud former Governor Henry Seriake Dickson for his vision in establishing the Trust Fund as well as the magnanimity of Governor Douye Diri in sustaining the EDTF towards providing quality education for the people.
Contributing, the Chairman, PTA, Mr. Akpoebi expressed gratitude to the EDTF for their efforts in the provision of water in the school.
The Principal of KGS, Dr. Eluan appreciated the Bayelsa State Government and EDTF for their dexterity in establishing the project in the school. He assured the management readiness to work in synergy with the community to provide adequate security for the facilities in school.
