EDTF GETS COMMENDATION FOR SPONSORING 5TH BATCH OF TEACHERS TRAINING IN BAYELSA STATE

The Acting Chairman of the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) Board Prof Francis Sikoki has emphasized the importance of training of teachers towards providing quality education for the citizens of the State.

 

Professor Francis Sikoki who doubles as the Chairman M&E Committee of the EDTF made the remark during a joint monitoring exercise of the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee and the Education Research and Technology Development Support Committee, at the (UAT), venue for Teachers Training Programme conducted by the Teachers Training Registration and Certification Board (TTRCB). The programme was sponsored by the Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF), and is the fifth intervention from the fund.

 

Prof Sikoki expressed delight that the TTRCB was thorough in executing the training programme which is impactful in the education sector of the state.

 

According to him, the monitoring exercise was aimed at assessing the utilization of funds release to the TTRCB for the training of 200 teachers.

 

In her remarks, the Executive Secretary, EDTF, Dr. (Mrs) Alice Atuwo also applauded the Executive Chairman TTRCB, Dr. (Mrs) Stella Ugolo for the prudent management of resources provided for the training programme with the view to provide quality and sustainable education to the people.

 

Dr. Atuwo underscored the need to carryout scientific assessment of the teachers training programme to gauge the impact of the training programmes conducted over the years in the sector.

 

She further explained that the provision of quality education and as well as training of Teachers are veritable tool to liberate the people from abject poverty.

 

The Executive Secretary, also emphasized that, with trained teacher, school children particularly those in the primary schools who are the direct beneficiaries would improve their basic skills and standard of education.

 

She further stated that the EDTF goal is to ensure that, every Izon child is given quality education to enable him/her make good use of the teaming wealth of the environment to better the society.

 

The Executive Secretary lauded the TTRCB team and urged them to continue in their efforts towards creating impact in the education sector in Bayelsa State.

 

In her response, the Executive Chairman TTRCB, Dr. (Mrs) Stella Ugolo expressed appreciation and commended the EDTF for the sponsorship of the Teachers Training Programme describing it as the live wire of the TTRCB Board. Dr. Ugolo said EDTF’s support has enabling the TTRCB to achieve its aims and objectives.

 

She explained that the impact of the Teachers Training Programme were enormous beginning from the time of civil service reforms by the Dickson led administration.

 

The Executive noted that 200 teachers were earmarked for the training but 189 teachers enrolled for the programme. Out of the registered number, 85 persons  were males and 104 were females while 7 Board members 2 male and 5 females were also included in the programme. 2 persons she accounted for were excused on the ground of health challenges while 11 did not turn up for the registration.

 

Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Membra Tarinyo, from Nembe LGA, Erefa Williams, Ekeremor LGA and Karina S Akpotua, Southern Ijaw LGA expressed appreciation to the EDTF as well as the State Government for the conduct of the training programme.

 

According to them, the training programme has greatly improved and impacted them academically while urging the government to sustain the programme.
