THE VICE CHANCELLOR BAYELSA MEDICAL UNIVERSITY (BMU) APPRECIATES THE EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT TRUST FUND (EDTF) FOR INTERVENING IN CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE UNIVERSITY

The vice Chancellor, Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) Professor Ebitimitula Etebu has appreciated the State Education Development Trust Fund for intervening in critical infrastructural needs of the University

Professor Etebu said, the Iconic roof top Laboratory project was achieved through the support of the EDTF stating that the intervention has drastically changed the narrative of the academic activities of the University from its inception.

The V.C made the remark during the monitoring and Evaluation Committee assessment and evaluation visit to inspect the equipping and furnishing of the Basic Clinical Science Laboratories, in the University, in Yenagoa.

Professor Etebu further explained that, the EDTF is supporting the building and equipping of the Basic Clinical Science Laboratories with five (5) departments which includes, Histopathology, Chemical pathology, Medical Microbiology, Human Pathology/Blood Transfusion And Pharmacology.

According to him as a specialized University, the Laboratories would not only be used in the training of doctors alone but, it will also be used in the training of other clinical programmes such as; Physiotherapy Hygiene, Community Hygiene, Public Health, Optometry, Dentistry and others.

The vice chancellor also expressed appreciation to the Fund and thanked the EDTF monitoring team for the dexterity in carrying out its exercise in compliance with the guidelines of handling public funds. 

While conducting the EDTF team around the Labs and equipments, Prof Etebu assured the University’s willingness to make judicious use of the laboratories upon completion for maximum impacts to the University and Bayelsa State.

Earlier, Chairman of the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee of the EDTF, Professor Francis Sikoki expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and the University authority for the warm reception accorded the EDTF team for the visit.

Professor Sikoki said, the purpose of the visit was to strengthen the already existing partnership with the University especially in carrying out the statutory function of the Board which is to evaluate and assess the length of progress made in terms of the equipping and furnishing of the five (5) Basic Clinical Science Laboratory funded by the EDTF since October, 2022.

Professor Francis Sikoki highlighted the areas of interest to the team to include, compliance with the Work Plan or specification of the laboratory equipments supplied, the statement of expenditure, fund received, report on progress made so far and review of challenges.

At the end of the visit, the EDTF team commended the University authority for their commitment to excellence and assured them of the Board preparedness to continue to support any renovation programme by the State owned Tertiary Institutions.

Professor Sikoki expressed confidence that, upon completion, the project would meet its objective.
