THE SUMMER HOLIDAY CAMPING AND CODING/ROBOTIC PROGRAMME FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN BAYELSA STATE

 The Executive Secretary Dr. (Mrs.) Alice Atuwo of the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (BYEDTF) said, the sponsoring of the Holiday Camping and Coding as well as Robotic Programme for Secondary School was to complement government’s effort towards uplifting the standard of Education in Bayelsa State.

According to her, the camping started on the 1st October, 2022 with 101 SS1 and SS2 students drawn from various Model Secondary Schools across the Eight LGA for the newly introduced Coding and Robotic Programme, 1,200 SS2 and SS3 students for the regular Summer Holiday WAEC, NECO and JAMB extension classes which has last five years and 12 Teachers, one each from the various schools are ongoing in the training programme. 

Dr. (Mrs.) Alice Atuwo, who made the remark while answering questions from Press Men after conducting them round on the spot assessment the performance of the newly acquired knowledge and skills on Coding and Robotics at the St. Judes Girls Secondary School, Amarata in Yenagoa.

She explained that, the Summer Holiday Camping Programme was aimed at preparing students to sit favourably on national exams to obtain outstanding results and compete with their counterparts in the world, noting that, it is the best gift given to a child through education.

The Executive Secretary stated that, through the programme, about 80% of the students particularly in the Ijaw National Academy (INA) and other schools 60 to 70% has transited to the Tertiary Institution and described the programme as huge success.

According to her, the Holiday Camping and Coding/Robotic Training Programme would last for 31 days 1st to 31st October, 2022 which comprises the 12 Government Model Schools across the 8 LGAs.

 

Dr. Atuwo further explained that, the 12 Teachers partaking on the Coding and Robotic Training would also carry out such trainings in their various schools to sustain the programme.

She expressed optimism that, through the programme, the needed skills on advance computer technology would be acquired to enable them impact on the society.

On behalf of the students, Saturday Gloria, Government Model Secondary School, Ogbia, Brown Praise Oyege, Ijaw National Academy and Jacob Emmanuel (INA) expressed gratitude to the EDTF and the State Government towards the conduct of the Holiday Camping and Coding/Robotic Programme which has caused tremendous impact on their academics and generally in their lives in the area of Website creation, Coding word development and Robotic development.

Also contributing, Ebikake Oyakemeagbegha, a Teacher, Government Model Secondary School Ekeremor, used the opportunity to commend the Government and the EDTF for putting up the programme which is an added advantage to the students particularly the coding and Robotic Programme which would raise the standard of Education in the State.
